SEO for professional services firms: expertise that cannot be seen from outside

A consultancy, an engineering practice or an advisory firm sells judgement. From the outside, judgement looks identical on every website: a team photo, a list of services and the word trusted. The firm that gets found is the one that wrote down what it actually knows.

Who holds the results

The top of this query is held by software for running professional services firms and by marketing agencies. No consulting or advisory firm ranks here, which is expected: the people searching this phrase are firms looking for help, not clients looking for firms.

The client search is narrower and much more specific. Nobody looks for a professional services firm. They look for help with a particular regulation, a particular kind of project, in a particular industry.

Why these sites all sound the same

They are written from the organisation outward: practice areas, leadership, values. That describes the firm but answers nothing a buyer typed.

The buyer arrives with a problem in their own words. If no page on the site uses those words, the firm is invisible for it, however good it is at solving it.

What makes a firm findable

One page per problem you solve, named the way a client would describe it, not the way the practice area is labelled internally.

Worked examples: the situation, what you did, what changed. Client names are not required. Specifics are.

People pages that say what each person has actually done, because in this market the client is hiring the person as much as the firm.

A plain statement of how an engagement starts and roughly what it costs. Buyers of professional services dislike calling blind as much as anyone.

Our published prices: $800 to $2,500 for a one page site, from $3,000 for a business site, $250 / month for ongoing search work, one month at a time.
