The challenge

Getting a paper pattern into CAD normally means a digitizing table or a bureau that charges per piece and takes days. A small factory, a pattern designer and someone sewing at home all have the same job to do, and nothing sits between the phone in their hand and the cutter.

What we did

Our own product, built end to end. Photograph a pattern piece with a sheet of letter paper beside it and the site returns the closed outline, the notches and the grain line as DXF, PDF and PLT at true scale, in about a minute. The sheet of paper is what locks the scale.

We designed and engineered all of it: the tracing engine that finds the edge and the notches, the browser editor for correcting a trace by hand, a phone-to-computer bridge so a shot taken on a phone lands on the screen you are already working on, and a page for each of the four audiences.

The digitizemypattern editor under the heading “If the trace is off, you fix it yourself”, showing the traced outline with its points open for editing.

What it does for buyers

  • A cutting file from a phone photo, with no digitizing table
  • Correct the trace yourself in the browser, no round trip to support
  • Files in the formats the cutter and the CAD already read

What it does for the owner

  • Nothing sits between the photo and the file, so no operator per job
  • The editor absorbs a bad trace instead of turning it into a support ticket
  • A page per audience: factories, pattern designers, home sewing, upholstery

Standout features

  • Tracing engine that closes the outline on the paper edge and marks the notches
  • Scale locked by an ordinary sheet of letter paper in the frame
  • Browser editor for nudging points, curves, notches and the grain line
  • Phone-to-computer bridge: shoot on the phone, it appears on the desktop
  • DXF for CAD, tiled PDF for a desktop printer and PLT for a cutter
