Answer
Is SEO still worth it in 2026?
Yes, and the honest version of that answer has two halves. The market still pays real money for these words, and at the same time an AI answer already sits above the results on most of them, taking clicks before anyone reaches a site. Both halves are measurable, so below are our own measurements rather than an opinion.
What we measured, and how
On 6 September 2026 we ran 16 money queries for this market through DataForSEO: United States, desktop, top 20 results, with the AI answer block and the surrounding blocks recorded as they were shown. Separately we pulled the demand figures and the "people also ask" blocks for the 60 largest queries.
Nothing here is an industry estimate or a number from a blog post. It is what the search results looked like on that day, and every figure on this page comes from that run.
The market still pays for these words
The clearest sign that search still carries buyers is what a single click costs in paid results. If this traffic had stopped turning into work, the price would have collapsed. It has not.
| Query | Cost per click |
|---|---|
| seo services | $44.66 |
| local seo | $40.84 |
| website design company | $39.89 |
| web design services | $28.61 |
An AI answer already sits on most of these queries
On 9 of the 16 queries we checked, an AI answer was shown above the results, including "seo services", "website design cost", "website redesign services" and "landing page design services". That part of the worry is real: some of the clicks are taken before the results begin.
What it quotes is the useful detail. In our run the sources cited most often were YouTube (3 times), Reddit (2) and Semrush (2), then single mentions of Coursera, Seobility, Apexure, Landing Page Flow, Google's own support pages, Mailchimp and the US Chamber of Commerce. Agency and studio sites were almost absent from those citations.
The top of the page belongs to platforms, not to studios
The same pattern shows in the ordinary results. We counted how many of the 16 queries each domain appeared on:
| Domain | Appears on |
|---|---|
| reddit.com | 7 of 16 |
| youtube.com | 7 of 16 |
| clutch.co | 6 of 16 |
| designrush.com | 5 of 16 |
| fiverr.com | 4 of 16 |
So what actually changes about the work
Aiming a studio site at first place for "seo services" means fighting directories that hold thousands of review pages, and discussion threads that Google treats as the place where buyers compare. That fight is expensive and it is not the one worth picking.
What is left is narrower and more useful: pages that answer one specific question the way a person asked it, a site fast and plainly written enough that an AI answer can lift a block out of it, and presence in the places where buyers actually shortlist. This page is an example of the first one.
So the question is not whether SEO is dead. It is which part of it still returns the work you put in, and that part is smaller and more specific than what is usually sold as a monthly retainer.
What we do not promise
We do not promise positions, we do not buy links, and we do not quote results achieved for other clients as if they were guaranteed for you. Our prices are written on the site rather than kept for a call.
